Let's be fair. Some dogs absolutely hate visiting the groomer. What should otherwise be an exciting adventure and lovely experience can be frightening and stressful.

All professional groomers want the very best for the dogs in their care and to make the trip to their salon positive and enjoyable. For starters, a calm dog is much easier to groom, which makes for a more efficient service and a happier experience for all involved.

Though there are various ways of calming a nervous dog - like a quiet room or playing pleasant music - some dog owners are now asking their groomer if they include Reiki Healing.

Pronounced “ray-key”, Reiki is derived from two Japanese words which loosely translate to “Universal Life-force energy”. This ‘life force energy’ refers to the natural energy that is invisible, but is all around us, and is freely available for everyone. This invisible energy also runs throughout our bodies.

Reiki is not a medical practice. It is a healing exercise developed through folk traditions in Japan in the first half of the 20th Century. It is now commonly practised across the United States and Europe, including the UK.

Among its practitioners in the UK is International Reiki Master Rob Fellows. Rob has now also applied the teachings and practice of Reiki to dogs and other animals.

So, for example, when a dog arrives at the salon in an agitated state, its energy is out of balance. A pet groomer with training in Reiki Healing will help to restore balance to your dog through touch. The practice takes some training. But practitioners and patients, and now dog owners, are convinced by the benefits of Reiki.

The application of Reiki Healing is ideal for ideal for the dog groomer to use at any stage of the grooming process.

• Releases stress

• Reduces anxiety

• Increases energy levels

• Helps reduce pain and suffering

• Complements all veterinary treatments

• Helps speed up recovery following illness or surgery

• Totally harmless

• Improves sense of wellbeing

• Helps calm nervous dogs during grooming and in general

• Creates an amazing bond between groomer and dog

• The ultimate in pampering

Because Reiki is so simple to perform there is no need to carry out any preparation prior to giving a session. Your groomer can start and finish giving Reiki as and when you want to, or when it’s required.

Reiki is very gentle and simple and can do no harm, only potentially good things for your dogs.

Can I learn to do Reiki for my own dog? Or, if I'm a groomer reading this, can I learn to incorporate this into my business? Absolutely. Anyone and everyone has the ability to give Reiki Healing and no special skills are required. You don't need to be ‘gifted’ in any way, as some Reiki practitioners might lead you to believe!

International Reiki Master Rob Fellows runs live one-day training and qualification days in various locations or for those not wanting to travel. He also offers a quick and simple Home learning course. https://www.robfellowsreiki.com/reiki-for-dog-groomers/
